I met Jeff at RHS at 5:45.  We ran 5 miles and then we met up with Cheris, Peggy and Mimi.  We did a 7 mile loop and then came back to the cars again.  Then Jeff and I finished off with 5 more miles.  Avg pace 9:00 with the last 2 miles at 8:00.  I wore my new Brooks Adrenaline shoes.  They seemed fine.  Hopefully I can get this knee pain to go away.

The group was meeting at RHS. I got there 15 minutes early.  Jeff got there at the same time, so we warmed up for 1.5 miles.  When the rest of the group got there, we ran another easy 1.5.  For the workout we ran 5 x 1200's through the neighborhoods.  The pace was between a 6:50 and 7:00 minute mile average.  I was happy with that.  They were hard.  Then I cooled down until I hit 9 miles.

My class had a PT test at work so I go up at 4:45 to run before.  I ran 5.5 miles on the treadmill at home before I got there.  After the test, I ran another 3.5 at work.  I ran the 1.5 mile course twice plus some easy running in the middle.  I was disappointed I only managed to finish the first one in 11:30.

Taylor and I met Cheryl at Potato Hill treadhead for a nice trail run.  It was a new trail for me.  It was a nice run.

I won my first 10k woo hoo.  My daughter Taylor was running the 5k and asked me to go with her so I decided to run the 10k.  We warmed up for about 1.5 miles before the race.  

Mile 1 7:36 - This mile is mostly flat with a little bit of uphill in the second half.  I passed two women in the first 1/2 mile and was the leading female for the rest of the race.

Mile 2 7:47 - This mile is pretty much all uphill.  I passed a lot of 5k runners here.  

Mile 3 7:35 - Gradual downhill for a bit until we start heading up 14400 S.  

Mile 4 7:14 - Nice downhill

Mile 5 7:18 - More downhill 

Mile 6 7:46 - This mile was tough.  We were running on 2700 W and it was under construction.  There were barricades all over and I had to step down and run in the rocks a few times to let cars by since I was running in their lane.  I passed an 18 year old boy on this section.  There were now only 3 guys ahead of me.  Taylor met me at 5.5 and ran with me.  I was breathing pretty hard and she kept telling me to get my breathing under control.  I was running on the path about .25 miles from the finish when I saw two of the guys ahead of me coming from an upper path.  There was a locked fence blocking the trail we were supposed to run on.  The two of them pulled the fence open just enough to get us all through.  I felt bad for those 2 guys.  I lost about 10 seconds, but they lost about a minute more.  The race director saw us and ran over and opened it after we'd passed.  

Last .21 1:19 (6:24 pace)

Overall it was really good race for me.  This was my best 10k time since 2010 so I'm happy with my progress.  Taylor did great and was the overall winner for the women in the 5k.   After the race we cooled down for another 1.5 miles.

I'm off work today so I went for a run on the JRP.  I started at the fishing pond at about 11000 at run South to 14400 and turned around and ran back.  I kept the pace at around 9 mm on the first half and picked it up the way back.  The last couple of miles were around 7:40 pace.  Average 8:34.  It was a little cooler today which was nice.

The group met at the church on 11400 and 3400.   I got there a little early and got a mile in.  After the warm up with the group, we did 6x1200's. 1, 3, and 5 are mostly downhill and 2,4 and 6 are in reverse and mostly uphill.  I pushed myself way too hard on #3 and run out of gas for the last one.  

1: 5:21, 2: 5:10, 3: 4:39, 4: 5:19, 5: 5:00 and 6: 5:40

Last night when I went to bed, my legs felt like lead and I didn't think I'd even be able to run fast at all.  It was a tough workout, but I ran better than I thought I would.  I cooled down until I hit 9.  My right knee is still really stiff and painful.  It doesn't hurt when I run, but it really hurts when I stand up after sitting and if I try to kneel down.  Ouchy.

I'm really happy with how this race went.  I think this was my 8th time running this race and I got a new PR today.

Cheris, Michelle M. and Aaron met at my house at 4:10 to carpool to Mapleton.  At the top, we warmed up by running farther up the road and back.  I think that helped.  I wanted to get under 1:35 and I felt strong the whole race.  I had Gu at miles 3 and 10.  Just like at Hobbler 1/2, I had 2 Immodium when I woke up and 1 more an hour before the race.  I also took Ibuprofen at mile 10.  No stomach issues again.  That makes all the difference in my racing. I had a pork salad from Cafe Rio the night before.

My splits from my Garmin were: 6:42, 7:07, 7:10, 7:06, 7:02, 7:05, 7:19, 7:07, 7:20, 7:28, 7:36, 7:20, and 7:31 pace for last .97   

I really want to get under 3:30 at St. George.  I need to start getting more miles in.

Met the group at the park by Lifetime.  I got there early and ran 1.5 miles before.  After the warm up with the group, we started the workout.  We ran on the trail.  We did a ladder of fast running followed by recovery.  It was really windy heading South so we did our speed with the wind and recovered into the wind.  Then I ran by myself until I hit 10.

The group was meeting at SJ soccer fields.  Jeff and I got there at the same time and warmed up for 15 minutes.  When the group got there, we did another short warm up.  Then we ran 2 x 3 miles loops with a recovery in between.

The first 3 mile loop we started South into the wind.  I stayed with the speedy people for the first mile but I couldn't hang with them for the next two miles.  7:09, 7:28 (mostly uphill), and 7:08.

The next loop we started North.  I was definitely slower this time.  7:59, 7:25, and 7:35.

My left calf has a dull ache and it hurts to touch.  I've been having this pain since during the run on Tuesday.  It makes me way nervous.

I want to be smart and not let this calf pain turn into something that's going to keep me from running the marathon.  I ran 3 easy miles on the treadmill and stretched and iced.  I ran in my calf sleeves.  I've never had this before and I don't know if it's bad to run through it or not.  I really want to run 20 miles tomorrow.  What to do????

Yesterday I was questioning whether or not I should run 20 miles today.  I was dumb and defitinitely made the wrong choice.  My left calf and my right knee are messed up pretty good right now.

I was supposed to meet Jeff and the group at Dimple Dell at 6:00 am to run Wasatch Blvd.  When I got up at 5:00, it was pouring rain and windy.  The forcast showed it was supposed to clear up by 7:00 so Jeff and I decided to start then instead.

We started at a really nice and easy pace.  Peggy, Cheris and Michelle joined us a the church at the top of the big hill.  On the way back at about mile 12, I was running down the big hill with Peggy way faster than I should have and my calf started to really hurt.  I couldn't believe how stupid I was.  I planned on running 20 but I knew it I would better off to just end it when I got back to Dimple Dell.

I spent Satuday and Sunday stressing out about my calf.  I stretched, iced, rolled and wore compressing socks.  I decided this morning that I would try running on the treadmill and if I felt any pain at all I would stop and get on the elliptical.  Luckily I was able to run 7 easy miles without any pain.  My calf is sore when I touch it and I feel a little bit of "something" every once in a while when I walk.  It does hurt a to stand on my tippy toes.  That makes me wonder if downhill will hurt.  I was hoping to run Mt. Nebo in less than 2 weeks.  That may be out unless I'm completely pain free.

I met the group at the SJ Soccer Fields.  There were several of us there for the early miles.  I warmed up for 4 miles then we did 4 mile repeats up and down Rustic Roads with easy running in between for 3 minutes.   I tried to hold back a little because of my calf.  I didn't hurt during the run, but shins are little achy and my left calf is still pretty sore when I touch it.   My mile repeats were all in the 7:40 range.

I met the group at the church on tithing hill.  Cheris and I got there at the same time and were able to run for 2.25 before the group started.  We ran a 7 mile tempo run.  I was feeling really good and keeping a good pace until I had to make a pit stop.  That kind of threw my rhythm off a bit.  A few minutes later I ran into Jeff.  We ran together for about a mile and then I ran ahead and finished up the big hill on Lampton View.  I cooled down with Cheris and Jeff.  I forgot to start my watch after I ran into Jeff and didn't notice it for about 1 mile.  Most of the tempo run was in the 7:40-7:45 range.

I had a great run today.  The group was meeting at Cheris' house.  I got there early and ran an extra mile.  Then I ran 2.5 more warm up miles with the group.  Then at 6:30 we started The Run.  It was very hilly.  It seemed like all of the long steep uphills were into a very strong head wind.  My visor even blew off my head a few times.  I loved it though.  I felt really good today.  Average pace for the last 13.5 miles was 8:30.
