I took Paul's advice and did a downhill run on the treadmill at the gym.  I warmed up for 1 mile with no incline.  Then I ran 6 miles with a 3% decline at about a 7:45 ave pace.  Then I ran 4 more flat miles at a 9:00 min pace.  This was a great workout.  The time went by really fast.  My average heart rate was 153.

Great job! Always nice when time flies by - especially on a treadmill.

I love running fast downhill on the treadmill. It seems so easy and almost effortless. I think it is helpful for all the downhill at SGM.

Julie- I didn't know treadmills go downhill. Is this on the newer models? I rarely treadmill run but did last week at the PG rec center where they have all new equipment. Awesome cushioning even at 9 mph. But downhill would have been better.

Oh Julie, you need to blog today you silly girl:)

Thanks for the comments. It was fun Cheryl. I still need to try the downhill 5k that you do. I think I'll try that next week.

Julie- The treadmills that are at my gym are about 2 years old. I have a treadmill at home, but it feels so hard compared to the ones at the gym. I was surprised at how sore my hips were today after running that downhill. I'm more sore than I was after running Hobble Creek.

Julie, does the treadmill actually have a negative grade or is it a technique you are applying? I would be interested in knowing more about this.

From Kelli on Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 22:52:02

The treadmills at my gym have a negative grade, but I have never tried it. I am going to on Monday just to see what it feels like. It has always kind of scared me!

I can not believe anyone can say time flies by on a treadmill. There must be something wrong with me!
